Hyperscaler Data Centers Are In The Pipeline, Says PLDT
PLDT is further sealing its brand as the Philippines’ top telecommunications and internet provider. Powered by PLDT’s ICT arm, ePLDT, the company is set to build a series of data centers totaling to a power requirement of 100 megawatts (MW). This project is expected to help strengthen the country’s standing as the up and coming digital hub in the APEC region, and even beyond.
Construction for the data centers will begin in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, and will be powered with triple-route PLDT domestic fiber, as well as telco fiber connectivity from other providers. Vitro Sta. Rosa, as what the company is calling this project, will be ePLDT’s 11th data center and to be situated in a 5-hectare PLDT property within the center of the city’s industrial hub.
While this project is of massive scale, the company further assures clients that minimal to no disruption is to be expected. The planned data centers are committed to be Tier-3 certified and Tier-4 ready, which means that highest reliability uptime will still be observed and that there’s minimized risk of power failure.
PLDT has long been collaborating with local and national government units to further establish the country’s position as the next hyperscaler destination in Asia. And the construction of these data centers is just among the myriad of big projects in the pipeline that PLDT has prepared. On what’s ahead for PLDT and ePLDT, Jojo Gendrano, first vice president and head of enterprise and international at PLDT and Smart, said, “We have elevated our infrastructure design, our operating practices, and business models in our existing data centers according to what they need, and VITRO Sta. Rosa’s design and operations will be very well-suited to hyperscaler standards.”
